I loved as a kid playing cow-boys and native Americans with my brother. All boys did, and girls had their own role-playing too. As adults we replaced these games by assuming different roles in our life, each according to his personality and how the environment influenced him.
Social Media is accentuating our roles by opening the possibility to wearing virtual masks. We like to look bold on LinkedIn, know-it-all on Twitter, happy on Facebook and attractive on Instagram.
Roles could help us navigate through life. They should not become our identity though. Just like the boy who identify with superman shouldn’t believe he could jump from the balcony, our roles as we grow older shouldn’t take over of who we truly are.
